Ensembles and Activities

Orchestra

JCMS Orchestra is the hub of music in Jesus College and provides many opportunities for the numerous talented musicians in college to perform some of the best music that exists in the classical repertoire together. We meet for rehearsals once a week and hold popular termly concerts in our beautiful chapel. Recent performances have featured much familiar repertoire from Mozart, Brahms and John Williams, but we also try to explore the works of lesser-known composers, as well as premiering new compositions – sometimes from our very own Jesuans! Each year, we present a concerto performed and conducted by Jesuans. The opportunity to conduct the ensemble in concert is open to any Jesus College students: no prior experience is necessary, and some training is available to new conductors. If you’re interested in joining, please email our President (email)

Recital Series

JCMS holds one of the most prestigious recital series, with a range of performances coming from both Jesuans and further afield. These recitals take place in our chapel weekly on Saturday at 8pm during Michaelmas and Lent term, and we hold a week-long lunchtime recital series during May Week. If you are interested in performing, please contact our recitals managers.

Gigs

JCMS hosts gigs several times a term,  with a range of performances and bands coming from both Jesuans and further afield. These gigs take place in the Brewery Room throughout the year. If you are interested in performing, please contact our gigs manager.

Chapel Sessions

The Jesus Chapel Sessions Series are a relaxed space for Jesuans to perform alternative musical genres. The popular termly ‘Blues and Chill’ sessions feature some of our most talented acoustic and jazz musicians, and late in Michaelmas term the annual performance of the Snowman is popular with students and staff alike. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with our Chapel Sessions manager (email) if you’d like to perform at one of our chapel sessions.
